The brand BRAUN is a synonym for much more than “simply” a traditional manufacturer of chairs. Following the founding of the “Sessel- und Holzwarenfabrik” at the foot of Lockenhaus castle in the year 1921 by Kommerzialrat Johan Braun, the core competencies of BRAUN Lockenhaus evolved constantly. The manufacturer of contract and design furniture collections is proud to have gradually established itself as the Austrian market leader for customized room concepts. Today BRAUN supplies the entire Austrian contract sector. Clients are for example the “21er Haus”, “Esterhazy Palace” in Eisenstadt, the “Kultur Kongress Zentrum” Eisenstadt, Vienna Airport, the fancy restaurants “Fabios”, “Lugeck” and “Motto am Fluss” or the “Congress Schladming” convention center. Since 2005 BRAUN Lockenhaus is part of the German SCHNEEWEISS interior.

A SPECIALIST FOR BENTWOOD TECHNIQUES

Bending wood with the help of steam is a traditional crafting technique that calls for great precision, intuition and experience. Only premium-quality wood can be selected and processed to bentwood design items. Bentwood furniture items are especially renowned for their considerably high stability and long-life cycle. It is not surprising that they embody design classics. Premium quality and design variety establish their legendary reputation. Nowadays only very few manufacturers are able to use the ancient bentwood technique. BRAUN Lockenhaus is one of them and provides the foundation of tomorrow’s design icons with its exclusive bentwood furniture, e.g. the items of the Krischanitz bentwood collection.

Amidst the beautiful Burgenland region, economic and environmental responsibilities are core values of our company. To promote and challenge employees is particularly important to BRAUN, moreover we strive to hold a lead position when it comes topics like quality assurance and environmental technology. This is the only way to manufacture high-quality products that are allowed to bear the BRAUN Lockenhaus name. By the way, the raw material beech wood comes from the natural forests of the district Oberpullendorf in central Burgenland.

1921

On April 2, 1921, the company was issued with a trade license in Köszeg, as Burgenland was still part of Hungary at the time. Since the founding of the “wooden goods factory” at the foot of Lockenhaus Castle in 1921 by Commercial Councillor Johann Braun, the core competencies of BRAUN Lockenhaus have been continuously developed.

1950er

At the end of the 1950s, Johann Braun handed over the management of the company entirely to his two sons.

In 1969, the next generation changed and Lambert Gneisz took over the management. He ensured a major investment boost in equipment and product range. The company continued to be particularly active in the school furniture and catering sectors - and with success.

1974

At the end of the 1970s, production was upgraded to the point where the production of individual special solutions began. The furniture could now be produced flexibly according to customer wishes and requirements.

2005

In 2005, the Hiller Group took over the BRAUN company from the owner family. Since then, BRAUN Lockenhaus has belonged to what is now SCHNEEWEISS interior, which in turn is one of the market leaders at European level in the manufacture of table and seating furniture made of wood, tubular steel, stainless steel and plastic and gives the Austrian subsidiary a great deal of freedom in both research and development and marketing. Jochen Joachims, previously purchasing manager and authorized signatory of the German company Hiller Objektmöbel, is a trained upholsterer and business economist and will take over management of BRAUN in Lockenhaus on April 1, 2008.
